Thank you /Gracious

There is nothing like hearing “Thank you” unprompted from your child.  My Batty just came in and told me “thank you for getting us those Icees; on a hot day like today is a perfect day for an Icee because it is Hot and they are Cold.  If I was on the sun I would feel like it was a hot hot day and my feet would start burning.”

Couldn’t we all do a little unprompted “Thank you”.  I’ve thought of sending our Pediatrician a Thank you card. I think I should stop thinking and start doing.  I love, love, love her.  We have been with her since Amazing Kiddo was new.  She has gone above and beyond so many times I can’t count.  She always treats all of us with respect and listens and trust my “mom instincts”.

I should send my mom a thank you for just being so great.  Shouldn’t wait for a holiday.  There are so many people who I could send a Thank you too.  I don’t think in our society we are near as thankful as we should be.  I see to many people looking for things to complain about and issues/causes to promote.

Shouldn’t we being trying to lift each other up?

Ecclesiastes 10:12-14 “Words from the mouth of the wise are gracious, but fools are consumed by their own lips.  At the beginning their words are folly; at the end they are wicked madness and fools multiply words.” NIV

Don’t totally understand that.  However, it tells me our words should be gracious.  What is gracious?

The http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/gracious dictionary defines gracious as:

1  aobsolete: godly

barchaic: pleasing, acceptable
2
a: marked by kindness and courtesy <a gracious host>

c: marked by tact and delicacy : urbane
d: characterized by charm, good taste, generosity of spirit, and the tasteful leisure of wealth and good breeding <gracious living>
3 : merciful, compassionate —used conventionally of royalty and high nobility
Who should we be gracious too?  Sounds like I should do some more research into this one.  What do you think?  Are your words gracious?

  1. Reblogged this on Gratitude and commented:
Unprompted acts of gratitude are always welcome – thank you for sharing these words

  2. Yes, yes, and yes, we do not feel more loved than when we are shown the graciousness of appreciation and it seems to be out of the blue. And as far as the scripture, I unfortunately understand it all too well. My speech isn’t wise or kind when my heart is full of frustration and anger, a lack of gratitude, and a complaining spirit. I find over and over that I must first be grateful to God for Himself, His ways, and for the person He created that I am speaking to. What flows from the mouth is flowing from the heart…sometimes, often, my heart is just not full of light and life, but of foolishness which distorts my thinking and feeling which unchecked and uncorrected leads me to the madness that hurts those I love most. Gratitude + Truth = grace.
